KTM has introduced the new 2027 KTM SX-E 2.12, an all-electric mini motocross bike designed for taller young riders who are ready for something a little bigger.
Sitting between the smaller SX-E 2 and the more powerful SX-E 3 and SX-E 5, the new SX-E 2.12 gives young beginners more room to grow while keeping the lightweight design and simple electric power that make learning to ride easier.
With larger wheels, increased suspension travel and a taller riding position, it's a great option for young riders who have outgrown their first bike but aren't quite ready to move up to the next level.
Made for Taller Young Riders
The biggest difference between the SX-E 2 and the new SX-E 2.12 is its size.
The new model uses an extended version of KTM's aluminium frame design, with a larger 12 inch front wheel replacing the 10 inch wheel found on the SX-E 2.
It also gets longer suspension components, giving the bike a taller stance and more ground clearance.
The seat height increases by 66 mm compared with the SX-E 2's maximum seat height of 500 mm, bringing it to approximately 566 mm. Despite the larger dimensions, the bike still weighs just 29 kg.
The SX-E 2.12 is aimed at:
- Children aged approximately 4 to 7 or 8 years old
- Riders up to around 130 cm tall
- A maximum rider weight of 35 kg
- Young beginners who have outgrown the SX-E 2 but aren't ready for the SX-E 3 or SX-E 5
Simple Electric Power
The SX-E 2.12 is powered by a 1.8 kW electric hub motor, producing up to 50 Nm of torque.
Unlike a traditional petrol powered motocross bike, there's no chain or sprocket to worry about. The motor is built directly into the rear wheel, keeping the design simple and reducing maintenance.

Electric power also means quiet operation, making the bike particularly suitable for riding in areas where noise restrictions apply.
The motor is powered by a 9.4 Ah lithium-ion battery with an IP65 water sealed design.
Easy Charging Between Rides
Charging the SX-E 2.12 is straightforward.
The bike comes with an external charger that can be connected to a standard 110 V or 230 V socket, providing up to 500 W of charging power.
A full charge takes approximately 60 minutes, making it easy to get the bike ready for another riding session.
Suspension Built for Growing Riders
KTM has also updated the suspension to suit the larger dimensions of the SX-E 2.12.
At the front, there's a WP hydraulic fork with 90 mm of travel, while the rear uses a preload adjustable 34 mm hydraulic monoshock with 70 mm of travel.
Together, these components are designed to provide balanced suspension performance as young riders develop their confidence and skills.
Safety Features for Peace of Mind
Learning to ride should be fun, but having the right safety features is important too.
The 2027 KTM SX-E 2.12 includes several useful features designed with younger riders in mind:
- Roll over sensor that cuts power if the bike falls over
- Wrist lanyard connected to the kill switch, stopping the motor if the rider becomes separated from the bike
- Illuminated handlebar display showing the selected ride mode using different colours
- Chain free hub motor design with fewer exposed moving parts
These features help make the SX-E 2.12 a practical introduction to electric offroad riding.
