In MY 2020, KTM released 890 DUKE R and it was lively to say the least. The ‘Scalpel’ as it was so aptly named, was destined to dominate track days and for those lucky enough to ride one during the last turbulent year, the bike was everything KTM promised.
Fast forward to 2021 and the KTM team have taken all the raw power of that LC8 parallel twin that caused such a stir and attempted to tame it for a slightly quieter, more road-friendly model called the 2021 KTM 890 DUKE.
It may have shed the R from its name, but this beauty comes packed full of extra features that folks who spend plenty of time on the road will love. In fact, in KTM’s latest press release they summed up the KTM 890 DUKE’s potency much better than we ever could:
“While all the horses are straining to be free, the KTM 890 DUKE can either be gunned or gently guided; creating a large grin for all ages and abilities. The KTM 890 DUKE is ‘midweight’ only through concept, the kilos and the nimbleness of the handling alone: the rest is rasping performance and state-of-the-art ride by wire electronics. This bike will stare down all rivals on the road.”

If that hasn’t got you frothing for a ride, how about some inspiring words from KTM’s Head of Product Management, Adriaan Sinke:
“With the KTM 890 DUKE R we knew we were bringing a bike that was distinctly KTM to the market and it was only a matter of time before we could reshape that package to introduce the ideal second generation of THE SCALPEL. We found where we could either improve or offer the rider more than could be found on the KTM 790 DUKE.
The KTM 890 DUKE is stuffed with the DNA of KTM: READY TO RACE, technically advanced and engineered to meet the demands of any rider. It takes pride of place in the DUKE family and is another big statement in not only the midweight market but also the naked bike segment. I’d normally tell riders to enjoy this one but, this time, there is really no need.”
We expect to take delivery of the new KTM 890 DUKE at some time during spring/summer 2021.
